About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide patient care within the Medical Assistant scope of practice and follow policies and procedures
- Perform rooming and visit tasks, including vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings
- Assist providers with or perform ordered procedures
- Perform venipuncture, specimen collection, labeling, packing, lab order preparation, and results tracking
- Conduct point-of-care testing and CLIA-approved waived laboratory tests according to standards
- Administer medications and vaccines safely
- Handle medication refills, insurance authorizations, regulatory logs, patient messaging, supply ordering, scheduling, and referrals
- Communicate effectively, work as part of a team, and escalate issues appropriately
- Maintain clean work areas and ensure equipment and supplies are functional and stocked
- Assist with teammate training and onboarding
- Serve as a role champion or committee member when needed
- Provide age-appropriate care based on patient status and developmental needs
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED required
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, structured clinical military training, or EMT (Greater Charlotte)
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification required (Greater Charlotte)
- Recognized or certified as a CMA or RMA by an approved national organization
- Successful completion of Atrium Health’s competency assessment
- Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant
- Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after competency demonstration
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient computer skills, including keyboarding, Windows navigation, email, and exposure to electronic medical records
- Customer service skills supporting a positive patient experience
- Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance
- Functional speech, vision, hearing, touch, and fine-hand manipulation skills
- Ability to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed
- Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
