About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform basic to advanced nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including general, cardiac, therapy, and PET/CT procedures if performed at the assigned facility
  • Review medical records, patient history, lab results, physician orders, and requisitions to ensure exam accuracy
  • Obtain medical histories from patients
  • Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals and procedural adjunctive medications according to prescriptions and approved exam parameters
  • Perform venipuncture, place peripheral IV catheters, and access other vascular devices as trained and needed
  • Handle radioactive materials correctly and implement ALARA measures
  • Maintain accurate pharmaceutical dose records
  • Relay pertinent patient history information to appropriate staff and departments
  • Post-process, identify, and label images accurately
  • Maintain regulatory records and enter patient and study information into the radiology information system
  • Document billing codes to ensure accurate patient charges
  • Identify equipment performance issues and perform quality assurance tests and calibration procedures
  • Report malfunctioning equipment
  • Serve as a technical resource, role model, and/or preceptor for students and staff
  • Support staff at the assigned facility and throughout the system
  • Assist with accreditation efforts
  • Perform patient positioning and transporting duties involving lifting and pushing/pulling
  • Provide age-appropriate patient care based on growth and development principles and departmental policies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Neurophysiology, or Bachelor's Degree in Biology or related field
  • Nuclear Medicine Technologist certification (CNMT) issued by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB), or Nuclear Medicine Tech (N) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) needs to be obtained within 1 year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and radiation safety
  • Knowledge of Radioactive Materials Program Requirements (State of WI) DHS 157
  • Competent in IV and venipuncture
  • Basic to proficient ECG interpretation, heart rhythm recognition, and pharmacological knowledge
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient service skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, and twist throughout the workday
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance, push/pull with 30 lbs. of force, and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present
  • Must have clear speech, vision, and hearing
  • Must be able to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
