About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist RNs with daily patient care, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, ambulation, positioning, range of motion, and transfers
- Measure and document vital signs, intake/output, daily weights, and other patient data in the EMR
- Perform purposeful rounding and communicate patient/family observations, concerns, and needs to the RN
- Participate in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes under RN supervision
- Answer call lights and manage patient rooms and belongings
- Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens and perform point-of-care testing as indicated
- Complete errands, deliver trays/charts/specimens/reports, maintain nursing-area stock, and clean equipment/work areas
- Transport and position patients using proper techniques and assistive devices
- Support patient nutritional needs, skin integrity, repositioning, and special supplies/appliances
- Remove IVs, provide post-mortem care, and perform bladder scans when required by site/unit
- Follow infection-prevention, hand-hygiene, sterile, aseptic, and contaminated-material disposal procedures
- Provide age-appropriate patient care according to departmental policies and procedures
Requirements
What you’ll need- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 45 days
- Nurse Aide in good standing with the State Registry in which the team member practices
- GED/HSED or high school graduate
- Basic computer skills
- Excellent oral and written communication
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities
- Minimum of 36 hours per 6-week schedule
- Ability to work one weekend per month on a second or third shift, at manager’s discretion
- Ability to work two holidays per year, potentially including the day before and/or after the holiday
- Ability to meet physical requirements, including lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, transferring, and use of equipment
- Functional vision and hearing
- Ability to work around mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood, and body-fluid hazards with appropriate protective clothing
