About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Complete patient registration duties, including collecting and validating demographic and insurance information
- Obtain pre-certification or authorization as required
- Enter patient information into the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist ADT system
- Inform patients of estimated liability and collect patient liabilities
- Identify patients needing financial assistance and refer them to financial counseling
- Greet patients and monitor patient flow
- Complete registration for walk-in patients and update demographic and insurance information
- Verify insurance benefits and calculate and collect out-of-pocket liabilities, past-due balances and estimates
- Follow Financial Clearance policy for non-urgent services when clearance or authorization is incomplete
- Perform visit closure, check out patients, schedule follow-up appointments, collect additional responsibility and provide documents
- Maintain knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, third-party payer requirements, insurance plans and accepted insurance plans
- Communicate customer service and process improvement issues to management
- Meet productivity and 98% accuracy expectations
- Maintain positive public relations with patients, families and clinical staff
- Collaborate to ensure concise and timely information flow
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or GED required
- Patient access (scheduling, registration and financial clearance), insurance verification, billing or certified medical assistant experience preferred
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, EMTALA rules and regulations, and insurance pre-certification requirements
- Understanding of basic human anatomy, medical terminology and procedures
- Mathematical aptitude, effective oral and written communication skills, and critical thinking skills
- Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and ADT software
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information according to internal policies
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and problem-solve in a high-profile, high-stress area
- Ability to interact positively with internal and external customers and determine work priorities
- Ability to sit the majority of the workday
- Occasionally lifts up to 10 lbs.
