About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Greet patients arriving for appointments
  • Monitor patient flow to ensure efficient and courteous service
  • Complete and maintain accurate patient demographic and insurance information
  • Register walk-in patients and update records as needed
  • Verify insurance benefits and calculate and collect patient financial liability
  • Request and collect past-due and current balances or estimates
  • Follow financial clearance policies for non-urgent services
  • Identify patients needing financial assistance and refer them to a Financial Counselor
  • Perform visit closure, including checkout, follow-up scheduling, collection of additional patient responsibility, and document provision
  • Maintain knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, third-party payer requirements, insurance plans, and authorization policies
  • Communicate customer service issues and process improvement opportunities to management
  • Meet productivity, accuracy, and department performance requirements
  • Maintain positive public relations with patients, families, and clinical staff
  • Collaborate with others to support concise and timely information flow
  • Report to a Supervisor or Manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Patient access, insurance verification, billing, or certified medical assistant experience preferred
  • Ability to travel/float to Elkin, Mt. Airy, Statesville, and Wilkesboro
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, EMTALA, insurance pre-certification requirements, and payer policies
  • Mathematical aptitude, oral and written communication, and critical thinking skills
  • Understanding of basic human anatomy, medical terminology, and medical procedures
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and ADT software
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine correspondence and calculate discounts and percentages
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and determine work priorities
  • Ability to sit for the majority of the workday and occasionally lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Must be able to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
