About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Greet patients arriving for appointments
- Monitor patient flow to ensure efficient and courteous service
- Collect and validate patient demographic and insurance information
- Register walk-in patients and update information when needed
- Verify insurance benefits and obtain, calculate, and collect patient financial liabilities
- Request and collect past due and present balances or estimates due
- Follow financial clearance policies for non-urgent services
- Identify patients needing financial assistance and refer them to a Financial Counselor
- Perform visit closure, check out patients, schedule follow-up appointments, collect additional patient responsibility, and provide appropriate documents
- Maintain knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, third-party payer requirements, insurance plans requiring pre-authorization or referral, and accepted insurance plans
- Communicate customer service and process improvement issues to management
- Meet productivity requirements and performance expectations, including a 98% accuracy rate
- Maintain positive public relations with patients, families, and clinical staff
- Collaborate with others to ensure concise and timely information flow
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or GED required
- Patient access, insurance verification, billing, or certified medical assistant experience preferred
- Knowledge of Medicare, HIPAA, and EMTALA rules and regulations
- Knowledge of insurance pre-certification requirements
- Understanding of basic human anatomy, medical terminology, and procedures
- Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and ADT software
- Mathematical aptitude
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information according to internal policies
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to prioritize work and interact positively with internal and external customers
- Must be able to sit the majority of the workday
- Occasionally lifts up to 10 lbs.
