About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Greet patients arriving for appointments and monitor patient flow
  • Complete and update patient registration, demographic, and insurance information
  • Verify insurance benefits and obtain, calculate, and collect patient financial liabilities
  • Request and collect past-due and current balances or estimates
  • Follow financial clearance policies and obtain authorizations when required
  • Identify patients needing financial assistance and refer them to financial counselors
  • Perform visit closure, check out patients, schedule follow-up appointments, and provide documents
  • Maintain knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, third-party payer requirements, insurance plans, and accepted insurance lists
  • Communicate customer service and process improvement issues to management
  • Meet productivity and 98% accuracy expectations
  • Maintain positive relationships with patients, families, and clinical staff
  • Operate equipment necessary to perform the job

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Patient access, insurance verification, billing, or certified medical assistant experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, EMTALA, insurance pre-certification requirements, and payer policies
  • Understanding of basic human anatomy, medical terminology, and procedures
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and ADT software
  • Mathematical aptitude, effective oral and written communication, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information according to internal policies
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and solve problems in a high-profile, high-stress area
  • Ability to sit the majority of the workday and occasionally lift up to 10 lbs.
