About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Register or pre-register scheduled patients for admission, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services
- Verify insurance coverage and obtain authorization, pre-certification, and/or referral for services requiring them
- Coordinate with patients and scheduling departments to reschedule procedures until authorization or patient payment can be arranged
- Request upfront payment of deposits from the responsible party
- Update schedules for cancellations, rescheduling, and other changes on an ongoing basis
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED required
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Accurate spelling and attention to detail required
- Must be able to key 40 wpm
- Knowledge of patient registration, insurance, and hospital billing preferred
- Medical terminology knowledge and understanding of third party reimbursement preferred
- Excellent communication skills and customer service skills required
- Must be able to push a wheelchair with a patient in it and maneuver through doors, ramps, and elevators
- Must be able to respond quickly to medical STATS and emergencies
- Must be able to lift 20–50 pounds occasionally
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with numerous interruptions
