About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform non-standard, standard and complicated treatment planning and techniques, including HDR, LDR and SRS
  • Perform radiation surveys of patients exposed to radioactive sources and treatment rooms
  • Calibrate therapy machines and instruments against national standards
  • Measure therapy beam data for treatment planning
  • Lead troubleshooting and collaborate with Medical Engineers
  • Operate equipment and perform quality assurance
  • Write specifications and commission therapy equipment and accessories
  • Design new techniques and ancillary equipment
  • Perform and oversee commissioning and acceptance testing
  • Develop and maintain QA programs for treatment modalities and imaging devices
  • Work with physicians to analyze outcomes and develop processes and protocols
  • Develop, implement and oversee radiation safety policies
  • Track and validate patient-dose data and treatment-planning algorithms
  • Perform physics measurements and support special procedures and programs
  • Consult with Radiation Oncologists and Physicians on target delineation, modeling and treatment planning
  • Establish and monitor imaging processes and equipment performance
  • Develop treatment-delivery techniques and support radiotherapy room design
  • Provide staff education and mandatory radiation safety training
  • Assist with accreditation, departmental QA and radiation safety committee activities
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory and accrediting bodies
  • Provide age-appropriate care based on patient status and developmental needs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Medical Physicist certification issued by ABMP, or CMP-ABR certification issued by ABR, or CMP-CCPM certification issued by CCPM
  • Master's Degree in Medical Physics or related field
  • Typically 3 years of experience in a Medical Physicist Oncology position
  • Advanced knowledge of treatment units and simulators and their clinical limitations
  • Advanced knowledge of acceptance testing, commissioning and calibration of linacs, simulators and brachytherapy sources
  • Knowledge of clinical dosimetry for external beams and implant sources
  • Knowledge of patient setup and computerized treatment planning for HDR, LDR, TBI, SRS, stereotactic radiotherapy, gamma knife and cyberknife
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Must lift up to 20 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • May push up to 500 lbs. 50 to 200 feet
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
  • Ability to work with mechanical, electrical, and radiation hazards
