About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide adaptable, high-quality Emergency Department nursing care across multiple Wisconsin hospitals and units
- Work across 5–7 Advocate Health facilities through day-to-day floating or 6-week site rotations
- Assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate nursing care using the nursing process
- Engage patients and families throughout the continuum of care
- Monitor patient conditions, adjust care plans, mobilize resources, and collaborate with the care team
- Administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely according to protocols and procedures
- Uphold and promote a culture of safety
- Evaluate patient, team, and unit outcomes and take action as needed
- Participate in unit councils, professional governance, quality initiatives, and evidence-based practice
- Communicate effectively, provide feedback, resolve conflicts, collaborate, and delegate appropriately
- Pursue professional development, complete required education, and maintain certifications
- Adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics and contribute to integrated, unbiased patient care
- Delegate to Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and unlicensed assistive personnel
- Maintain accurate, timely EHR documentation
- Float to other units, departments, care areas, or facilities within the designated service area as needed
- Provide age-appropriate care based on patient status and developmental needs
Requirements
What you’ll need- 2 years Emergency Department RN experience
- Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved nursing education program
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Active registered nurse (RN) multi-state compact and/or single-state license with privileges to practice in the state(s) where services are provided
- Typically requires 1 year of experience in clinical nursing
- Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be required based on specialty
- Certifications needed: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC
- Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking
- Time management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Proficiency in operating computer functions, electronic records, and digital platforms
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently
- Ability to lift and support 35 pounds
- Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person
- Functional speech, vision, hearing, touch, and fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures
- Ability to perform physical safety interventions and verbal de-escalation
- Ability to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions
- Physical Abilities Testing may be required
