About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Engage in unit councils, professional governance, and quality initiatives
- Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate nursing care
- Engage patients and families throughout the continuum of care
- Monitor patient conditions and adjust care plans
- Mobilize resources and collaborate with the care team to influence care outcomes
- Uphold and promote a culture of safety
- Evaluate patient, team, and unit outcomes and take action as needed
- Administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely according to protocols when required
- Demonstrate effective communication, feedback, conflict resolution, team collaboration, and delegation
- Pursue professional development, complete required education, and maintain certifications
- Practice ethical decision-making in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics
- Delegate appropriately to RNs, LPNs, and unlicensed assistive personnel
- Maintain accurate and timely EHR documentation
- Float to other units, departments, care areas, or facilities within the designated service area when required
- Provide age-appropriate patient care based on assessment and departmental policies and procedures
- Work as a virtual nurse on site at Lutheran General Hospital for the first 90 days, then transition to primarily remote work with monthly/quarterly in-office shifts
- Work rotating weekends every other weekend and rotating holidays
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved nursing education program
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Active registered nurse (RN) multi-state compact and/or single-state license with privileges to practice in the state(s) where the RN is providing client nursing services
- Telehealth/telenursing/virtual nurses must be licensed or hold the privilege to practice where clients are located
- Typically requires 1 year of experience in clinical nursing
- Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking
- Time management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Proficiency in computer functions, electronic records, and digital platforms
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently
- Ability to lift and support 35 pounds
- Ability to push/pull with 30 pounds of force and perform a 150-pound sliding transfer with a second person
- Functional speech, vision, hearing, touch, and fine hand manipulation skills
- Ability to maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines
- Ability to perform physical safety interventions and verbal de-escalation
- Ability to respond quickly to changes in patient or unit conditions
- Physical Abilities Testing may be required
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN)
