About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Responsible for the day-to-day Infection Prevention program and activities for designated healthcare facilities, clinics, and healthcare services
- Abstract patient-chart data for surveillance and focus studies and generate healthcare-associated infection statistics
- Develop and pilot data collection tools
- Use several electronic systems to collect data
- Report routine and significant epidemiological findings to department leadership and the Medical Director
- Maintain infection records; compile, analyze, and disseminate surveillance data
- Collaborate with leadership and recommend improvements based on data analysis, literature reviews, professional standards, and multidisciplinary conferences
- Advocate for patients, visitors, and healthcare workers across the continuum of care
- Create, implement, and revise infection prevention policies
- Assist with investigations and follow-up of healthcare workers and non-employees exposed to communicable diseases and occupational exposures
- Assist with investigations and corrective-action recommendations related to healthcare construction and moisture management
- Identify unsafe infection-control practices and hazards
- Design, implement, and monitor solutions to system-wide, departmental, or unit problems
- Serve as a resource for infection prevention issues and participate on relevant committees
- Collaborate with public health epidemiology, Safety, Emergency, and Infectious Disease Medicine on policy development, investigations, bioterrorism readiness, and outbreak-control measures
- Work on-site across Navicent Baldwin and Navicent Rehabilitation Hospital; participate in the regional on-call rotation
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must speak and understand English fluently
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or healthcare related field required
- Current applicable state license as a Registered Nurse required
- Certification in Infection Control and Prevention (CIC) preferred, and required within 3 years of employment
- At least 2 years clinical experience as RN, preferably acute care required
- Ability to identify and research problems required
- Ability to analyze and interpret data and problem solve required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills required
- Knowledge of Microbiology, biostatistics, and basic principles of hospital epidemiology preferred
- Ability to produce epidemiological studies preferred
- Ability to interpret fundamental bio-statistical information and computer generated materials preferred
- Intact sense of sight and hearing required
