About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work as a Registered Nurse in the Med Surg Float Pool
  • Work three 12-hour shifts per week, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., including every other weekend
  • Float to Atrium Health Union, Union West, and Anson as needed
  • Engage in unit councils, professional governance, and quality initiatives
  • Use the nursing process to assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate nursing care
  • Engage patients and families throughout the continuum of care
  • Monitor patient conditions, adjust care plans, mobilize resources, and collaborate with the care team
  • Promote a culture of safety
  • Evaluate patient, team, and unit outcomes and take action as needed
  • Administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely according to protocols
  • Communicate effectively, provide feedback, resolve conflicts, collaborate, and delegate appropriately
  • Pursue professional development, complete required education, and maintain certifications
  • Practice according to the ANA Code of Ethics and contribute to integrated, unbiased patient care
  • Delegate appropriately to registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and unlicensed assistive personnel
  • Maintain accurate and timely EHR documentation
  • Float to other units, departments, care areas, or facilities within the designated service area to meet patient-care needs
  • Provide age-appropriate care based on patient status and developmental needs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduate of a Board of Nursing-approved nursing education program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Active, unrestricted registered nurse (RN) multi-state compact and/or single-state license with privileges to practice in the state(s) where services are provided
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in clinical nursing
  • Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking
  • Time management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Proficiency operating computer functions, including email, electronic records, and digital platforms
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently
  • Ability to lift and support 35 pounds
  • Ability to push/pull with 30 pounds of force and perform a 150-pound sliding transfer with a second person
  • Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch; fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures
  • Ability to maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines
  • Ability to perform physical safety interventions and verbal de-escalation if needed
  • Ability to respond quickly to changes in patient or unit conditions
  • Physical Abilities Testing may be required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
