About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work across multiple hospitals and units as a float respiratory therapist
  • Assess patients using pulmonary diagnostics, chest radiographs, hemodynamic values, laboratory values, blood gases, and electrolytes
  • Identify and address special needs of patient populations specific to department services
  • Operate specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care settings
  • Assist physicians with bedside and other procedures as applicable
  • Provide medication treatments and therapies according to physician orders and patient-driven respiratory protocols
  • Clean, maintain, troubleshoot, and ensure proper functionality of equipment; identify service and repair needs
  • Educate and instruct patients on therapy purpose, technique, self-care, goals, and disease management
  • Facilitate clinical problem solving and collaborate with other departments on patient management education
  • Adapt to policies, procedures, service areas, assignments, and special duties under physician direction
  • Provide clear, concise, timely, and accurate patient handoffs
  • Promote patient safety, report safety events and near misses, and assist with corrective actions
  • Teach, educate, and precept new teammates, orientees, and students
  • Provide age-appropriate care based on growth and development principles and patient-status data

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license issued by the state in which the team member practices
  • Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the NBRC within 12 months, or active Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential issued by the NBRC if credential received prior to January 1, 2023
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Graduate from an accredited respiratory care program, with a minimum of an associate degree
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Problem solving and decision making for patient care and equipment use
  • Proficient computer skills, e-mail, and electronic medical record systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, listening, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with patients, team members, and physicians
  • Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively with others
  • Time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize in an environment with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 lb and perform specified patient transfers
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
