About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide a clean, safe, and efficient area conducive to optimal patient care
- Prepare materials, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures using aseptic surgical techniques
- Assist with gowning and gloving, surgical-area preparation and draping, sterile-field maintenance, instrument and suture provision, and passing instruments or supplies
- Anticipate surgeons' needs and assist in maintaining a sterile, dry, unobstructed field
- Perform all types of procedures and maintain basic knowledge of various procedures
- Disinfect, set up, operate, and restore operating-room equipment
- Function as a Second Assistant as necessary
- Notify appropriate staff of equipment and supply problems
- Transport patients, equipment, and supplies
- Maintain a specialty cart or item, including checking completeness, working condition, and sterility
- Perform patient positioning and transporting duties
- Provide age-appropriate patient care according to department policies and procedures
- Maintain annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications
- Perform other related duties as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Completion of an accredited or approved program in Surgical Technology
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) to be obtained within 6 months unless determined unnecessary by the department leader
- No experience required
- Knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques used in preparing materials, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures
- Knowledge of various operating-room equipment
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer proficiency
- Ability to withstand a stressful and fast-paced environment
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. over the head
- Ability to carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance
- Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force
- Ability to perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present
- Functional sight and hearing
- Ability to operate all equipment essential to the job
