About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Estimate labour, equipment, and material costs for supply and installation
  • Prepare and document work completion estimates for Airfield Electrical & Communications Infrastructure construction projects
  • Share accountability for the overall financial performance of awarded projects
  • Analyze documents, specifications, proposals, and addendums for pricing
  • Communicate with clients regarding estimates
  • Review project sites before price preparation
  • Collaborate with Operations, PMO, Owners staff, clients, consultants, and subcontractors
  • Perform quantity take-offs from construction drawings
  • Obtain supplier and subcontractor pricing and incorporate it into estimates
  • Formulate labour, equipment, material, rental, and subcontract costs for tender submissions
  • Ensure tender submissions are accurate and complete
  • Distribute appropriate documentation upon project award
  • Manage scope change pricing
  • Maintain files, correspondence, and estimating data systems
  • Provide technical support to field staff
  • Drive estimating process and procedure compliance
  • Conduct bid handover meetings
  • Assist with prequalification, RFQ, and RFI submissions
  • Apply Aecon risk management policies and procedures
  • Protect proprietary information
  • Assist in training new estimating staff
  • Perform repetitive data-entry movements
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and promote an inclusive culture

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Diploma/Degree in Civil, Construction, Electrical, or Business
  • Minimum 2 years of estimating/operational experience in Electrical Infrastructure
  • Understanding of airfield electrical & communication systems is an asset
  • Construction site experience is considered an asset
  • Skills that allow for working independently with little supervision
  • Prior operational experience is an asset
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and contract documents
  • Thorough knowledge of contract language, terms and conditions, bonding, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of associated trades labour agreements and working rules
  • Good knowledge of job cost fundamentals and accounting/reporting
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Excel, Word, Project and estimating software
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to work accurately and effectively under pressure
  • Adaptable to a flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with others as a team
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required
  • Professional designation is an asset (P.Eng., C.E.T., CTech)
