About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead welding development initiatives in the Aecon Centre of Excellence shop
  • Assist welding engineers with developing, troubleshooting, designing, testing, and training for welding processes and equipment
  • Perform manual, mechanized, and automated welding activities
  • Develop welding processes and complete welding PQR efforts according to CWB and ASME code standards
  • Support corporate welding program development, administration, and maintenance
  • Support new and in-process project activities
  • Perform R&D, training, proposal work, and business development support
  • Work with automation, robotics, mechanized orbital welding, and advanced welding technologies
  • Troubleshoot and solve technical welding issues
  • Mentor welders and trainees
  • Operate and maintain basic welding equipment, tools, and machinery

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Strong education and hands-on welding experience
  • Experience welding to high volumetric RT/UT standards using GTAW, SMAW, and/or GMAW welding processes
  • Minimum two years of industry welding experience with manual and/or mechanized arc welding processes
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints and fabrication drawings and understand weld symbols
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Passion for welding
  • Willingness to mentor other welders and trainees
  • Strong safety culture
  • Positive attitude toward developing and testing new solutions for technical welding issues
  • Experience with hand tools, grinders, and similar equipment
  • Familiarity with welding principles, including arc welding basics and welding types, preferred
  • Familiarity with robotics or comparable semi-automated and mechanized machinery, an asset
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work on and maintain basic welding equipment
  • Up-to-date overhead crane and forklift certifications, an asset
  • Willingness to continuously learn, experiment with new technologies, and develop welding, manufacturing, machinery, and tooling solutions
  • Knowledge of weld-related tooling and equipment development, an asset
  • Knowledge of operating mechanized and robotic equipment, an asset
  • College diploma or university degree is a bonus, not required
  • Membership in a local trade union is not required
  • May be required to perform a preliminary weld test before employment
