About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, develop, and scale AI agents in production, ensuring performance, reliability, and low latency
Build and evolve agent infrastructure, including harnesses, orchestration, and context and state management
Architect solutions for multi-agent systems and integrations with different tools and data sources
Develop APIs and backend services (e.g., FastAPI/Python) to support intelligent applications
Integrate new data sources and external services (e.g., medical APIs and clinical databases such as PubMed)
Ensure clinical accuracy, security, and regulatory compliance through testing and verification mechanisms
Implement observability practices, including tracing, metrics, logs, and alerts, for production monitoring
Optimize system performance, including latency, throughput, and scalability
Rapidly prototype new solutions and validate hypotheses before scaling them to production
Collaborate with Product and Data Science teams to define solutions and quality metrics
Lead and participate in code reviews, promoting quality and the team’s technical growth
Provide technical support to other engineers through mentoring and architectural discussions
Document technical decisions, such as ADRs, and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering practices
Conduct management activities, including 1:1s, ongoing feedback, performance review cycles, and individual development planning
Define and track team goals, connecting technical deliverables to the business’s strategic objectives
Support the team’s formation and growth, including career planning and technical and behavioral development
Identify capability gaps and support hiring processes in partnership with the Talent Acquisition team
Promote an engineering culture based on quality, collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement
Ensure the proper allocation of people across projects, balancing operational efficiency and individual development
Mediate conflicts and facilitate communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders
Serve as a bridge between strategy and execution, translating leadership direction into clear plans for the team

Requirements

What you’ll need

Solid experience in Software Engineering, with strong knowledge of architecture and design patterns
Deep knowledge of distributed systems, including consistency, fault tolerance, and the CAP theorem
Experience developing REST APIs, including versioning, caching, and resilience mechanisms such as circuit breakers and retries
Strong understanding of concurrency and parallelism concepts, including async programming, threading, and race conditions
Experience with observability, including distributed tracing, metrics, logs, and production debugging
Experience building resilient and fault-tolerant systems
Experience with automated testing, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing
Familiarity with developing AI-powered systems and agent concepts, including orchestration and multi-agent systems
Experience with modern AI-assisted development tools, such as Copilot, Cursor, or similar platforms
Fluency in Portuguese and technical reading proficiency in English
Previous experience managing engineering teams as a technical lead, coordinator, or in a similar role
Ability to develop people, provide structured feedback, and conduct performance discussions
Experience managing multiple priorities and simultaneous projects
Ability to influence decisions and align different stakeholders
Ability to make decisions in complex and ambiguous scenarios while balancing speed and quality
Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with multidisciplinary teams
