About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own and continuously refine the team's product backlog
- Prioritize backlog items according to business value, stakeholder needs, and product direction
- Translate business demand into requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria
- Collaborate with engineering colleagues to clarify requirements and resolve functional questions
- Maintain a refined backlog supporting continuous delivery
- Reprioritize backlog items based on feedback, business needs, delivered value, and dependencies
- Ensure the team understands business context, expected outcomes, and value
- Act as the primary product-level interface with business stakeholders
- Clarify business needs and reconcile stakeholder feedback
- Collaborate with the Principal Product Owner on product direction and priorities
- Work with engineering colleagues to understand technical constraints, dependencies, and implementation options
- Track product outcomes and team-level value delivery using feedback and metrics
- Escalate business priority conflicts and cross-team decisions to the Principal Product Owner
- Apply AI-assisted and agentic methods to backlog refinement, requirements analysis, user story preparation, and prioritization
- Review AI-generated requirements and recommendations for accuracy, relevance, and alignment with business needs
- Experiment with tools and approaches to improve product management effectiveness
- Facilitate team ceremonies, planning, backlog refinement, reviews, and continuous improvement
- Maintain clear priorities and information enabling autonomous work
- Identify and help remove delivery impediments
- Monitor product outcomes, delivery metrics, and quality indicators
- Use performance insights to inform prioritization and improvement
- Collaborate with the Principal Engineer and Delivery Manager on performance issues and improvement opportunities
- Contribute to team cohesion, autonomy, and continuous improvement without formal people-management responsibilities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Professional experience as a Product Owner, IT Business Analyst, or in a comparable product-oriented role within a software development environment
- Experience managing and prioritizing product backlogs
- Experience translating business needs into requirements and defining acceptance criteria
- Strong understanding of Agile product delivery practices
- Experience collaborating within cross-functional teams
- Experience working with business stakeholders and technical teams to clarify requirements and resolve competing priorities
- Ability to balance business value, stakeholder expectations, technical constraints, and delivery considerations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to use feedback and performance information to support prioritization decisions
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to explain requirements and business objectives clearly
- Proactive mindset, willingness to learn, and openness to AI-assisted product management practices
- Nice to have: Experience using AI tools for requirements engineering, backlog refinement, or product analysis
- Nice to have: Familiarity with agentic AI capabilities and their application to product management and software delivery
- Nice to have: Experience working with engineering teams delivering complex software solutions
- Nice to have: Familiarity with product metrics, business value measurement, and outcome-oriented product management
- Nice to have: Experience with Jira or Azure DevOps
- Strong product ownership fundamentals, sound judgement, and willingness to experiment with AI-assisted ways of working
