About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own onboarding and offboarding for every hire across a remote team in multiple states
- Run the review cycle in Strety, including mechanics, timing, calibration, and follow-through
- Handle employee-relations matters, including policy questions, scheduling conflicts, accommodation requests, and interpersonal friction
- Coordinate hiring from role scoping through offers, including interview panels and candidate communication
- Manage open enrollment, the broker relationship, and multi-state employment compliance
- Maintain the handbook, policy documentation, and personnel records
- Build and implement the performance improvement process
- Identify and address other people-process gaps
- Participate in investigations and termination conversations with the CEO and outside counsel, document them, and carry out decisions
- Make compensation recommendations for CEO approval
- Report to the CEO and work closely with outside employment counsel
Requirements
What you’ll need- Three or more years as an HR generalist
- At least one year as the only HR person or one of two HR professionals
- Direct California employment law experience
- Exposure to multi-state employment
- Experience running a full review cycle independently
- Experience running a full hiring process independently
- Ability to improve existing processes while having patience to run them before changing them
- Strong documentation habits
- Judgment to handle issues appropriately and discipline to escalate early
- U.S. person status, required by the nature of the customers' work
- Preferred: experience as the first HR hire
- Preferred: familiarity with EOS Defense, government contracting, or another regulated environment
- Preferred: PHR or SHRM-CP
