About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the monthly and annual financial close process and subsidiary ledgers
  • Maintain the general ledger and accurate transaction classification
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules
  • Own accounting for accruals, pre-paids, payroll, receivables, payables, deferred items, program funds, and significant accounts
  • Make and document accounting judgments and apply accounting policies consistently
  • Own revenue accounting and ensure revenue schedules align with contracts, operational activity, and source systems
  • Produce monthly financial reporting and supporting analysis
  • Maintain continuous audit readiness
  • Establish reconciliation standards, schedules, documentation, and exception-management processes
  • Reconcile bank accounts, payment-provider balances, program funds, AR, and AP to the general ledger
  • Own billing, collections, cash receipts, AR aging, and billing discrepancy resolution
  • Own AP, spend controls, vendor records, expense classification, Ramp-to-Rillet sync, payment preparation, and release
  • Oversee program funds from receipt through disbursement and closeout
  • Maintain program balances, disbursements, fees, returns, outstanding transactions, and remaining funds
  • Oversee participant payment controls and funds movement
  • Own treasury, company cash, banking operations, bank-account administration, transfers, and cash visibility
  • Maintain authorization, approval, access, segregation-of-duties, and anti-fraud controls
  • Prepare for audits and coordinate accounting support for tax, diligence, insurance, and compliance reviews
  • Own operational tax-compliance workflows and filing/payment calendars
  • Administer Rillet and other finance systems
  • Improve mappings, integrations, reporting, templates, checks, and automation
  • Partner with Engineering and Business Operations on financial infrastructure
  • Report directly to the CEO and collaborate with the fractional CFO, Program Management, Engineering, and Mission Control

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of month-end close
  • Experience operating as a Controller, Assistant Controller, senior Accounting Manager, or equivalent accounting leader
  • Strong knowledge of accrual accounting, general ledger accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, revenue accounting, AR, AP, and financial controls
  • Sound accounting judgment and ability to independently research, reach, and document accounting conclusions
  • Experience preparing a company for audit and working directly with auditors
  • Experience with cash management, banking, treasury, payments, or other financial operations
  • Comfort operating in an environment with substantial transaction volume and complex reconciliation requirements
  • Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills, including structured, auditable financial analyses and reconciliations
  • Experience using modern accounting and finance systems; familiarity with Rillet and Ramp is a plus
  • Track record of improving processes and automating recurring financial work
  • Strong documentation habits
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and take clear ownership of outcomes
  • Strong judgment about when an issue requires escalation
  • Clear, direct communication and a "no surprises" approach
  • Comfort working directly with a CEO and partnering with an external or fractional CFO
