About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Investigate, evaluate, and determine the disposition of new and existing third-party property and casualty claims
- Determine the scope and extent of available coverage
- Prepare and execute investigation strategies addressing liability, causation, damages, risk transfer, and contribution opportunities
- Review coverage under Excess Commercial General Liability and auto policies
- Participate in investigations and control litigation strategy
- Direct litigation and attend mediations, trials, and settlement conferences
- Assess liability and damages and recommend reserves
- Communicate with insureds, brokers, attorneys, claimants, underwriters, counsel, vendors, and internal stakeholders
- Document exposure evaluations, resolution strategies, evaluation thought processes, and negotiation strategies
- Present claim disposition recommendations and large-value cases to senior management
- Obtain appropriate authority to negotiate multimillion-dollar claims with leading plaintiff attorneys
- Use alternative dispute resolution where appropriate
- Strategize and budget litigation while maintaining financial control of legal expenses
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of Commercial/Industry claims experience preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong negotiation skills
- Advanced experience and capabilities in litigation claims management, including ADR and mediation
- Experience attending and controlling cases pre-suit, litigated, and post-trial at mediations and settlement conferences
- Property and Casualty licenses required, to be obtained within 6 months
- Ability to handle complex multimillion-dollar casualty claims
- Experience reviewing Excess Commercial General Liability and auto policy coverage
- Ability to communicate with insureds, brokers, attorneys, claimants, underwriters, counsel, and vendors
- Ability to present large-value cases to senior management
