About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Investigate, evaluate, and determine the disposition of new and existing third-party property and casualty claims
  • Review coverage under Excess Commercial General Liability and auto policies
  • Prepare and execute investigation strategies addressing liability, causation, damages, risk transfer, and contribution opportunities
  • Participate in claim investigations and control litigation strategy
  • Direct litigation and attend mediations, trials, and settlement conferences
  • Assess liability and damages and recommend reserves
  • Communicate with insureds, brokers, attorneys, claimants, underwriters, and other internal and external customers
  • Document exposure evaluations, resolution strategies, thought processes, and negotiation strategies
  • Present large-value case disposition recommendations to senior management
  • Obtain authority to independently negotiate multimillion-dollar claims with leading plaintiff attorneys
  • Utilize alternative dispute resolution as appropriate
  • Strategize and budget litigation through discussions with counsel, vendors, and insureds
  • Establish ground rules with defense and coverage counsel to control budgets and expenses

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 8+ years of Commercial/Industry claims experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Advanced experience and capabilities in litigation claims management, including ADR and mediation processes
  • Experience attending and controlling cases pre-suit, litigated, and post-trial at mediations and settlement conferences
  • Property and Casualty licenses required; must be obtained within 6 months
  • Interest in an upwardly mobile career path
