About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Handle and investigate Defense Base Act claims within the Federal Workers Compensation jurisdiction
- Apply a proactive, best-practice approach aligned with AIG quality standards
- Use investigation, claim handling, litigation, and negotiation skills to achieve timely, cost-effective settlements and protect recovery rights
- Provide prompt, effective customer service
- Maintain regular contact with internal stakeholders, brokers, medical experts, clients’ lawyers, injured workers, and legal representatives
- Build effective internal and external customer relationships and act as a point of referral
- Identify and review suspect or fraudulent claims in line with company guidelines
- Exercise independent decision-making with reserve and settlement authority up to $500,000
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to Claim Representatives
- Collaborate with underwriting colleagues to improve products
Requirements
What you’ll need- Knowledge of legal, regulatory, litigation, and procedural requirements for Federal Workers Compensation claims
- Specialist knowledge of Defense Base Act claims preferred
- Proven experience in settlement evaluation and negotiation
- Policy language skills for accurate and consistent policy wording interpretation
- Lateral thinking and problem-solving ability
- Ability to develop new ideas to improve working practices
- Strong communication, time management, administrative, and report-writing skills
