About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Partner with operations leadership to integrate safety and compliance into daily business decisions and operating processes
- Provide EHS guidance and technical support to facilities across the assigned geography
- Conduct field visits, observations, assessments, and leadership engagements to identify hazards and operational risks
- Guide and support investigations involving injuries, vehicle incidents, property damage, releases, fires, near misses, and other significant events
- Ensure investigations identify underlying causes and organizational contributors and produce effective corrective and preventive actions
- Monitor safety and compliance performance, identify trends, and develop risk-reduction strategies
- Support compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, DOT, EPA, state and local environmental requirements, and Airgas policies
- Provide technical guidance on industrial gas operations, material handling, powered industrial trucks, cylinder handling, driver safety, hazardous materials, and emergency preparedness
- Support environmental compliance programs covering hazardous materials, hazardous waste, air, stormwater, and local requirements
- Facilitate completion and verification of corrective actions from incidents, audits, inspections, and assessments
- Develop and deliver safety communications, training, stand-downs, and engagement activities
- Promote proactive reporting, learning from near misses and Good Catches, and associate involvement in risk reduction
- Build relationships across Operations, Human Resources, Fleet, Distribution, Production, Quality, and other groups
- Support regulatory inspections, agency inquiries, audits, and compliance activities
- Participate in regional EHS initiatives and improve systems, processes, and tools
- Advance safety culture, regulatory compliance, and operational risk management across San Marcos and surrounding regional facilities
- Develop a high-performing EHS team and embed safety processes into normal business operations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Demonstrated professional experience in environmental, health, safety, transportation, manufacturing, distribution, or industrial operations
- Working knowledge of OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and other applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations
- Ability to investigate incidents, evaluate risk, identify root and contributing causes, and develop corrective actions
- Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to influence operational leaders and frontline associates without relying solely on positional authority
- Ability and willingness to spend significant time in operating environments and engage directly with employees
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities across numerous locations
- Ability to travel regularly throughout the assigned area and periodically elsewhere within the West Region
- Valid driver's license
- Valid employment authorization in the U.S. and no visa sponsorship requirement now or in the future
- Preferred: Previous EHS leadership or people-management experience
- Preferred: Experience supporting multi-site manufacturing, distribution, transportation, chemical, industrial gas, or similarly regulated operations
- Preferred: Experience with DOT/FMCSA transportation safety and hazardous materials regulations
- Preferred: Professional certification such as CSP, ASP, CHMM, CIH, or equivalent
- Preferred: Experience with California-specific environmental and occupational safety requirements
