About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Guide the team in designing and building scalable, secure backend services
Stay hands-on when needed, including coding, debugging, and reviewing critical pull requests
Step in during production incidents and work alongside engineers to resolve them
Participate in architecture and system design discussions and make sound technical decisions
Translate product and business priorities into clear engineering roadmaps and milestones
Manage dependencies and flag delivery risks early to keep the team shipping
Coach, mentor, and develop engineers through regular feedback and career growth
Build a team culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous learning
Improve engineering processes across testing, deployment, monitoring, and incident management
Partner with Product, Design, and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
Proven years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years managing engineers
Strong backend engineering background (architecture, API design, databases, production operations)
Experience with Java and/or Golang, including MySQL or PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kafka or RabbitMQ
Understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architecture
Experience with high-traffic systems in fintech or other complex environments
Track record of leading projects from planning to production
Clear communication with Product, Design, and engineering stakeholders
Ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical audiences
Ownership mindset and drive for continuous improvement
Fluent English and comfort working with distributed, international teams
