About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, build and run scalable, secure backend services and APIs for accounts, balances, transfers and payments
Own larger features and services end to end, including monitoring, alerting and on-call follow-up
Design ledger and balance logic, including double-entry records, holds, balances, reversals and complete audit trails
Design reliable money flows with idempotent requests, clear transaction states, safe retries and handling of unknown bank results
Integrate with banks and payment networks, handling timeouts, delays, cut-off times and duplicate or out-of-order messages
Build and improve reconciliation, settlement and end-of-day batch processing
Drive root-cause fixes for reconciliation mismatches
Build risk controls such as transaction limits, velocity checks and fraud rules with Risk and Compliance
Maintain service performance and stability during peak periods and plan capacity
Lead design reviews and conduct code reviews
Investigate production incidents, perform root cause analysis and ship lasting fixes
Mentor mid-level engineers and share knowledge
Collaborate with Product, Finance, Operations, Risk, Compliance and Security to deliver reliable solutions

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
5+ years of professional backend engineering experience
Track record of owning production services that handle money or other critical transactions
Strong in Java, Go or another modern backend language
Solid understanding of microservices, REST/gRPC APIs, event-driven design, distributed transactions, reliability and observability practices
Hands-on experience with relational databases, including transactions, locking and query tuning
Experience with Redis caching and Kafka messaging
Working knowledge of ledgers, payment networks, bank integrations and reconciliation, or strong experience in comparable payment or e-wallet systems
Experience running services on GCP or AWS, with containers and CI/CD
Ownership mindset and clear communication
Experience in banking, payments, e-wallets or another regulated financial environment is a strong plus
