About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Interact with surface transportation vendors
- Manage trucking capacity and assign vendors to loads
- Work with Operations and Sales teams to identify timelines for future shipments
- Identify the best routing based on product readiness, freezer appointments, and trucking and ocean carrier service availability
- Address daily tactical issues with internal customers and transportation vendors
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and performance
- Offer ideas for implementing positive changes
- Identify core business and key destinations for transportation vendors to match them with company business
- Handle rate requests, negotiations, and management with ocean carriers, rail, trucking, and drayage companies
- Interface daily between internal customers and vendors
- Interact with all AJC functional departments and outside transportation vendors
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
- Ideally 1–2 years of experience in ocean transportation
- Knowledge of refrigerated transportation preferred
- Advanced skills in MS Outlook, Excel, and Oracle
- Exceptional organizational skills
- High attention to detail
- Strong sense of urgency
- Results driven
- Ability to multitask and prioritize
- Able to communicate clearly and concisely verbally and via email
- Able to work independently and with other team members
- Quick learner
- Pro-active, positive, energetic, and able to work under pressure
- Required to read, write, and speak English fluently; this will be tested during the interview
