About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform routine County trail maintenance, including pruning, mowing, and clearing
- Construct new trails and perform re-routes and re-alignments of existing trail sections
- Install and maintain trail signs
- Clear downed trees from County trails after storms
- Patrol County park trails to identify maintenance and safety issues
- Operate power equipment and a variety of hand tools
- Provide information and assistance to park users and seek voluntary compliance with park rules and regulations
- Collect suggestions and recommendations from trail users
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license
- Experience in the operation of automotive equipment and performance of manual labor
- Knowledge of the safe use, operation, and preventive maintenance of common automotive and mechanical equipment
- Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions involved in equipment operation
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, occasionally under unfavorable weather conditions
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed
- Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks, including bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying items weighing 20 to 50 pounds
- Ability to operate mowing equipment over rough terrain
- Ability to walk, bike, and operate all-terrain vehicles over difficult terrain
- Ability to work outside in adverse weather
