About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support employees unable to work due to disability, illness, or injury
  • Promote optimal vocational functioning on a permanent or temporary basis
  • Assess functional abilities and vocational data to determine alternative work options and employability
  • Conduct employee interviews for vocational assessment purposes
  • Perform comprehensive file reviews, vocational assessments, and transferable skills analyses using vocational software and the Dictionary of Occupational Titles
  • Determine alternative occupations matching claimants’ skills, aptitudes, and physical and mental abilities
  • Perform triage reviews for return-to-work opportunities
  • Co-manage return-to-work claims according to employer business requirements
  • Contact healthcare providers and employers to facilitate transitional work release and secure accommodations
  • Document activities, transferable skills, alternative occupations, work expectations, return-to-work barriers, and accommodations or modifications
  • Coordinate external vocational services, including ergonomic assessment, career exploration, job development, and placement
  • Work with vendors and state vocational rehabilitation agencies
  • Consult with claims teams and managers on file direction and conduct three-point contact as needed
  • Participate in sales presentations or client implementations as needed
  • Arrange referrals for physical, psychological, neuropsychological, academic, and vocational evaluations and standardized testing
  • Identify employment barriers and develop strategies and transitional return-to-work plans
  • Organize and update personal, vocational, eligibility, and medical records, correspondence, service documentation, and employee contacts

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • M.A./M.S./M.Ed. in Rehabilitation Counseling from a Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE)
  • Current certification as a Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC)
  • Three+ years of experience employed as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, disability claims, insurance industry practices, Social Security Disability and ADA laws
  • Proficiency in various TSA and LMS based programs
  • Ability to develop customized individualized rehabilitation programs for LTD claimants
  • Ability for exertion of up to 10 pounds
  • Ability to perform sedentary work involving sitting, walking, or standing
  • Ability to travel for client meetings
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, customer service, and analytical skills
  • Efficient multitasking and adaptability in task management
  • Ability to handle time-sensitive tasks promptly and prioritize work independently
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a diverse team
  • Work authorization in the United States without requiring current or future visa sponsorship
