About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and present hands-on instruction, lectures, and briefings on cybersecurity policy and risk management
  • Provide stand-up classroom and virtual training to Department of State employees and contract staff
  • Coordinate facilities and classrooms for domestic and overseas training delivery
  • Set up and operate equipment supporting curriculum delivery
  • Review course documentation and keep course materials current
  • Assist with developing and maintaining technical syllabi, curricula, security lesson plans, self-study guides, and trainee reference manuals
  • Respond to student inquiries about course content and Department standards and policy
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in relevant fields
  • Backfill other instructors as required by the Program Office
  • Assist staff with course preparation
  • Apply Department of State security standards and procedures to protect national security information
  • Operate U.S. government vehicles when necessary
  • Escort uncleared personnel when necessary
  • Work independently with infrequent supervision
  • Deliver training on schedules determined by FSI and program requirements, including occasional regional remote training

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant technical work experience, including three (3) years of teaching or instructional duties
  • Preferred certifications include ISC2’s Certification Authorization Professional, FITSP-Manager, CISSP-ISSEP, CISM, or GIAC
  • Working knowledge and application of NIST SP 800-53 rev 4/5, SP 800-37 rev 2, FIPS 199, FIPS 200, or similar DoD and intelligence frameworks preferred
  • Prior experience with the Assessment & Authorization process desired but not required
  • Completion of a recognized instructor development training course preferred; if absent at entry, must obtain CTT+ certification or complete the Department of State Training Tradecraft course (PD505) within 180 days of starting work
  • Two (2) years as a Level One instructor preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of current cybersecurity policy and risk management
  • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and ability and willingness to drive an official U.S. government van/sedan
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Minimum of an Associate Degree in cyber security, computer science, information systems, or a related technical field
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance
  • Able to remain stationary 75% of the time
  • Able to frequently move standard office equipment up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to work indoors 90% of the time
