About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Review medical clearance examination and medical clearance update submissions to determine diagnoses and individual medical needs
- Review medical reports, diagnostic reports, laboratory reports, physical examinations, specialty consultations, cables, and emails
- Determine medical clearances for approximately 2,000 individuals annually, including employees assigned to war zones
- Issue post approvals for individuals with Post-Specific (Class 2) clearances
- Independently adjudicate medical clearances using the nursing process, ISO standards, MIMED procedures, and established medical clearance guidelines
- Adjudicate clearances assigned by surname initial
- Contact clients or complete clearance decisions within seven working days after accepting a case
- Communicate clearance requirements professionally with clients and healthcare providers by email, cable, fax, and phone
- Update the eMED problem list and enter concise progress notes
- Document ISO-guideline rationale for Class 2 clearance decisions
- Match clients' ongoing care needs with available overseas medical resources for post approvals
- Use the MCI Post Approval Tool, Cent Com Mod 12 guidelines, foreign service medical providers, regional medical officers, expert consultants, and patient providers
- Complete post approval reviews within three working days after receiving all required information
- Participate in internal performance reviews, process committees, and regular staff meetings
- Review customer satisfaction measurements and provide timely, professional customer service
- Provide training and orientation to new employees
- Travel locally during the business day, with occasional out-of-area and overnight travel
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of three years of current clinical experience in occupational health nursing, hospital nursing, or public health nursing
- Previous experience working in overseas health units is desirable
- Computer literacy
- Ability to work with electronic medical records
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school/college
- Unrestricted current Registered Nurse license to practice nursing from any of the 50 states or the District of Columbia
- Secret security clearance required; Top Secret preferred
- Ability to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with evening and weekend hours as required by business need
- Ability to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time
- Ability to operate computers and office productivity equipment
- Ability to move standard office equipment up to 25 pounds
- Ability to work indoors 90% of the time
