About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct safety activities, evaluations, and incident reviews to support business units and company safety goals
- Assess compliance of company operations with safety regulations and laws
- Assist in developing company safety policies and procedures
- Prepare and conduct safety training and education
- Coordinate with departments to communicate safety concerns to internal and external audiences
- Identify hazards through visual inspections, documentation reviews, interviews, literature searches, hazard analysis, and system safety analysis
- Organize and conduct hazard evaluations, including equipment or process safety testing and risk computations
- Investigate complaints, exposures, accidents, incidents, injuries, and illnesses
- Review safety practices and work processes to identify safer methods using direct controls
- Guide local safety leadership teams in implementing injury-reduction measures
- Develop safety communications using audio, audiovisual, printed, and other media
- Track safety performance and prepare performance metrics, budget forecasts, and OSHA recordkeeping activities
- Perform industrial hygiene monitoring and evaluate workplace exposures, including indoor air quality, chemical management, heat illness prevention, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, bloodborne pathogens, asbestos, and lead
- Perform other duties supporting Alliant Energy's values and purpose
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5 years of experience
- Bachelor's Degree in safety, industrial hygiene, physical or natural sciences, or related area (Preferred)
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Utility Safety Administrator (CUSA), and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation (Preferred)
- Experience in safety, industrial hygiene, emergency management, safety management, or compliance planning (Preferred)
- Experience with incident investigations utilizing a learning team model (Preferred)
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with government agencies, utility groups, and other industries
- Ability to analyze and evaluate complex safety regulations and management systems
- Ability to identify safety issues, develop solutions, and communicate issues and solutions to multiple employee levels
- Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to use computer software programs including e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, and project management tools
- Effective analytical skills and ability to perform accurate in-depth analysis and develop statistical charts and graphs
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment
- Successful completion of a background check and drug screen where applicable
