Key responsibilities & impact

Set technical direction across multiple squads, typically overseeing 2–3 squads and line-managing 3–5 Full Stack Engineers
Shape architecture and ensure consistent, secure, compliant delivery across Allica Bank’s digital products
Define and evolve cross-squad patterns, shared tooling, and platform capabilities using Spring Boot microservices, Kotlin/Java, React, and TypeScript
Establish standards for containerised Azure Container Apps and Azure Static Web Apps deployments
Own authentication, observability, performance, accessibility, and regulatory compliance concerns
Design and review architectures, pair with engineers, and contribute code to high-impact initiatives
Collaborate with Product, Design, engineering leaders, Architecture, InfoSec, Risk, Compliance, Operations, and Platform Engineering
Drive responsible adoption of GenAI and agentic engineering practices, including Claude Code, Codex, and GitHub Copilot
Set backend, frontend, API governance, security, reliability, accessibility, and operational excellence standards
Own platform initiatives including shared libraries, design system tokens, infrastructure templates, observability frameworks, and code/scaffolding templates
Establish SLOs, error budget policies, and incident management practices; lead post-incident reviews and structural fixes
Lead cross-squad system design for complex initiatives and manage dependencies and domain boundaries
Improve Azure cloud-native deployment patterns, networking, configuration, and scaling
Improve developer experience through CI/CD, local development workflows, test strategy, and release processes
Define AI-assisted engineering standards, code review and validation expectations, and productivity measurement
Mentor and line-manage Senior Full Stack Engineers
Foster learning through communities of practice, architecture forums, and knowledge-sharing
Communicate technical strategies and trade-offs with senior stakeholders

Requirements

What you’ll need

Extensive experience designing and delivering distributed systems at scale using Spring Boot (Kotlin/Java) and modern web technologies (React/TypeScript)
Proven track record of simplifying complex architectures and defining cross-team patterns and platforms in a multi-squad environment
Solid experience with containerised workloads and cloud platforms, Azure preferred; AWS or Google Cloud also valuable
Experience with deployment, monitoring, and scaling of microservices and web applications
Deep understanding of secure coding practices such as OWASP, privacy, auditability, and regulatory expectations in financial services or similarly regulated environments
Strong experience with observability, SLOs, incident management, and operational excellence
Strong understanding of CI/CD and DevOps practices, ideally using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps Pipelines
Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automated testing at multiple levels
Experience designing and governing APIs at scale, including REST, OpenAPI, API gateways, versioning, backwards compatibility, and service contracts
Ability to lead technical programmes or initiatives spanning multiple teams and systems
Experience introducing and scaling new tools and standards across organisations, including GenAI technologies such as GitHub Copilot, with appropriate guardrails
Proven people leadership experience, including line-managing senior engineers, coaching technical leaders, and building high-performing, inclusive teams
Excellent communication and influencing skills
