Key responsibilities & impact

Lead the end-to-end design, development, testing, deployment, and support of enterprise-scale applications across the full technology stack
Own technical designs and implementation decisions for cloud-native applications, microservices, APIs, event-driven integrations, and user interfaces
Translate complex legal, compliance, and operational requirements into secure, scalable, maintainable, and supportable solutions
Provide technical guidance, conduct design and code reviews, mentor engineers, and promote engineering standards, reusable patterns, and continuous improvement
Estimate and plan technical work, identify delivery risks and dependencies, and partner with architects and product teams on roadmaps and modernization initiatives
Design and support matter management, legal operations, case management, document management, claims litigation, workflow, and regulatory compliance solutions
Build responsive, accessible web applications using React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, Material UI, and contemporary state-management and testing frameworks
Develop secure RESTful APIs and cloud-native microservices using Java, Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring Data, and related enterprise frameworks
Integrate legal platforms with claims systems, document repositories, enterprise services, and data platforms using APIs, Kafka, Azure Service Bus, and event-driven patterns
Design and optimize relational and document data models using SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB, and DocumentDB
Design and deploy containerized workloads using Docker, Kubernetes, Azure Kubernetes Service, and/or Amazon EKS
Build and improve CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, automated testing, security scanning, and deployment controls
Implement authentication, authorization, secrets management, encryption, logging, monitoring, tracing, and observability using enterprise security standards
Improve application performance, resiliency, availability, recoverability, and scalability; lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and production remediation
Participate in Agile planning, refinement, reviews, retrospectives, releases, upgrades, incident response, and post-production support
Report to the Engineering Manager and partner with Legal, Compliance, Product, Architecture, Data, Security, and Engineering teams

Requirements

What you’ll need

7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years of hands-on full stack development in enterprise Agile environments
Advanced proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, microservices architecture, RESTful API design, object-oriented design, and secure coding practices
Strong experience with React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, responsive design, reusable component patterns, and frontend testing
Experience designing distributed, event-driven systems using Kafka, Azure Service Bus, or comparable messaging technologies
Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, cloud-native application patterns, and deployments in Microsoft Azure and/or AWS
Experience with CI/CD, source control, automated testing, code quality, security scanning, and release automation using GitHub, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or similar tools
Strong database experience across relational and NoSQL technologies, including SQL Server or Oracle and MongoDB or DocumentDB
Demonstrated ability to lead technical design, troubleshoot complex production issues, perform root cause analysis, and improve system reliability and performance
Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to explain technical decisions to engineering and non-technical stakeholders
Experience mentoring engineers, reviewing code, and driving engineering standards and delivery quality
Experience delivering and supporting enterprise-scale applications and integrations throughout the software development lifecycle
Background investigation required
