About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage all aspects of insurance defense litigation from case inception to verdict
- Conduct initial case assessments, discovery, depositions, motion practice, pre-trial negotiations, courtroom advocacy, and post-trial motions
- Gather and organize documents, evidence, and legal research for hearings, trials, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions
- Conduct legal research on laws, regulations, and case precedents; prepare summaries and reports
- Draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other legal documents
- Interview clients and witnesses; prepare statement summaries and maintain communication records
- Attend court hearings, depositions, and other legal proceedings; represent the company or clients in routine matters as needed
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations and update the legal team on potential impacts
- Participate in training and mentorship programs
- Provide legal opinions to claims clients
- Conduct depositions and examinations under oath and prepare summary documents
- Provide counsel to business clients and coordinate between legal teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- Juris Doctorate
- Active membership in good standing with the Virginia State Bar
- Successful completion of courses focused on legal research, writing, and analysis
- Ability to conduct thorough legal research and draft clear, well-structured legal documents
- Strong time management skills
- Ability to organize case files, manage legal documents, and understand the discovery process
- Client communication, summary preparation, and interaction record maintenance skills
- Knowledge of legal ethics and professional conduct standards
- Fundamental negotiation techniques and strategies
- Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office, LexisNexis, TeamConnect, internet research tools, and legal case management software
- Background investigation required
- Dedicated, private home workspace free from distractions
- Reliable internet with minimum speeds of 50 MB download and 5 MB upload
