About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Implement Global and North American HSE programs, standards, procedures, and initiatives throughout the region
- Adapt and execute approved HSE programs for regional operational requirements and risks
- Support site leaders in applying HSE requirements consistently across locations
- Ensure regional compliance with corporate HSE expectations and performance standards
- Lead regional HSE improvement initiatives and risk reduction projects
- Coordinate and facilitate HSE Management Reviews
- Serve as the primary HSE resource for regional operations leadership
- Identify hazards and implement corrective actions with managers and supervisors
- Support sites during operational changes, equipment installations, facility expansions, and process modifications
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and workplace assessments
- Monitor occupational health, safety, environmental, and transportation regulatory compliance
- Support regulatory inspections and agency interactions
- Lead or support investigations of incidents, injuries, near misses, and environmental occurrences
- Conduct root cause analysis and ensure corrective actions are implemented
- Facilitate hazard identification and risk assessment activities
- Lead risk-reduction initiatives using engineering, administrative, and behavioral controls
- Support emergency preparedness and response planning
- Deliver HSE training and awareness initiatives
- Coach managers and supervisors on HSE responsibilities
- Track and report regional HSE performance metrics
- Maintain audit, inspection, incident, and corrective-action records
- Prepare monthly and quarterly HSE summaries for regional leadership
- Support environmental compliance, waste management, permit obligations, environmental controls, and sustainability objectives
- Investigate environmental incidents and support corrective actions
- Observe safety regulations and ALS health and safety policies
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation in the assigned region
- Understanding of environmental compliance requirements
- Excellent coaching and relationship-building skills
- Strong investigation and root cause analysis abilities
- Ability to influence without direct authority
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- 3+ years of progressive experience in Occupational Health & Safety, ideally within an industrial, laboratory, or field operations environment
- 1+ years of management experience strongly preferred
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Strong working knowledge of risk assessment methodologies, including JHA/JSA, hazard identification, risk ranking, and control hierarchies
- Experience working across multi-site operations is an asset
- Ability to sit at a desk and perform general office work for extended periods, with periodic computer/screen use
- Ability to wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting laboratory or field sites
- Ability to travel to ALS sites across the assigned region up to 40% of the time, including air and ground travel
- Must be a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the country applied for, or hold or be able to obtain a valid working visa
