About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support and assist all aspects of art and exhibition space preparation
- Install and de-install artwork and exhibitions
- Handle artworks during transportation, unpacking, condition reporting, and hanging
- Perform rigging, tethering, anchoring, and security hardware installation
- Work with wood, composites, plastics, metal, cement, tools, and hardware
- Operate and work with audio-visual equipment
- Prepare gallery lighting, including wiring/adapting fixtures and creating custom gels
- Report to the Director, Art Operations and take direction from the Registrar and Chief Curator
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Studio Art, Furniture Design, Product Design, Architecture, Engineering, etc., or 5 years of equivalent experience at a professional/commercial level
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience working as an art handler, fabricator, carpenter, or A/V tech at museums, galleries, design/build firms, academic institutions, etc.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in museum best practices and standards in handling artworks, including transportation, unpacking, condition reporting, and hanging
- Minimum of 3 years of experience installing and de-installing artwork, including hanging, rigging, tethering systems, anchor types and installation methods, and security hardware
- Minimum of 3 years of experience manipulating wood, composites, plastics, metal, and cement, and using relevant tools and hardware
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working with different types of audio-visual equipment
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with gallery lighting, including wiring/adapting fixtures, creating custom gels, and knowledge of bulb styles and applications
