About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the design and development of comprehensive DDC control systems for HVAC, lighting, energy management, and other building systems
  • Create system architecture diagrams, wiring schematics, control panel layouts, and sequences of operation
  • Ensure designs comply with project specifications, building codes, industry standards, and client expectations
  • Specify and select controllers, sensors, actuators, and other components
  • Analyze and refine engineering processes to improve efficiency, reduce design cycle time, and ensure design consistency
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, templates, and design libraries
  • Identify and implement tools and technologies that enhance design quality and productivity
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to collect feedback and drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Monitor KPIs to evaluate process improvements
  • Partner with project engineers, managers, and clients to gather requirements and translate them into actionable designs
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior designers and engineers
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers regarding component compatibility, quality, and delivery
  • Liaise between design, project management, and installation teams
  • Conduct thorough system design reviews
  • Perform value engineering to optimize performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, including submittals, as-built drawings, and system narratives
  • Support implementation teams by troubleshooting design-related challenges during installation and commissioning
  • Stay current on DDC technologies, building automation trends, and engineering best practices
  • Introduce innovative solutions to improve functionality, energy efficiency, and maintainability
  • Contribute to the company’s strategic growth and leadership in DDC systems design

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in designing DDC control systems
  • Demonstrated track record of leading successful projects
  • Proficiency in building automation protocols, including BACnet, Modbus, and LonWorks
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical wiring, control panel design, and relevant building codes
  • Expertise in CAD software and controls design tools
  • Experience with process improvement methodologies is a plus
  • Proven ability to implement process improvements and streamline engineering workflows
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively in a fast-paced environment
