About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead day-to-day activities of assigned Engineering staff
  • Assign projects to Engineers and monitor project progress
  • Ensure high-quality service and positive customer relations
  • Devise new approaches to problems and recommend changes to methods, procedures, or designs
  • Monitor the technical quality, content, consistency, continuity, and timeliness of assigned projects
  • Apply engineering principles and practices across broad technical areas
  • Perform engineering reviews and analyses as needed
  • Review other engineers' work and provide guidance and training
  • Participate in developing and changing Rules
  • Advise staff on applying Rules and Regulations
  • Prepare written responses to clients according to established procedures
  • Maintain liaison with internal and external engineering specialists
  • Monitor engineers' performance, development potential, and training needs
  • Keep management informed of manpower needs
  • Develop or assist with qualification statements, proposals, bids, and presentation materials
  • Generally report to a Principal Engineer or another designated manager depending on the assignment

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • B.S. degree in Civil, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another related discipline, depending on background
  • University graduate with a minimum of five (5) years of related experience
  • Hull background: demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software
  • Hull background: exposure to Finite Element Method through coursework or supervised research
  • Hull background: professional or chartered engineer license
  • Hull background: at least ten (10) years of related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or classification society; or two (2) years as an Engineer II
  • Machinery background: at least ten (10) years of related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or classification society; or two (2) years as an Engineer II
  • Machinery background: seagoing engineering license or professional/chartered engineer license
  • Advanced practical industry-related experience
  • Knowledge of related technical disciplines
  • Knowledge of applicable Rules and Regulations and their applications and interpretations
  • Knowledge of company business policies and procedures
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex or unique engineering problems
  • Ability to undertake short- and long-term planning for efficient and effective scheduling of work assignments
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing
  • Ability to obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems
