About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Identify opportunities and propose solutions to improve Engineering Applications
- Lead or participate in Engineering Applications development or support teams
- Carry out assigned duties on schedule and within budget
- Coordinate and collaborate with Engineering, Technology, IT, and other departments on Engineering Applications planning, design, development, testing, and maintenance
- Maintain good relations with customers and coworkers and support Engineering Application users
- Develop assigned Engineering Applications projects
- Provide expert advice on technology, engineering, Rules, and Regulations
- Collect user feedback and client needs
- Track industrial trends and technology development
- Propose new features, technologies, and solutions for continuous improvement
- Fulfill ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management System requirements
- Perform selected engineering analyses
- Report as assigned to a Director, Manager, Staff Consultant, Principal Engineer, or project leader
- Collaborate with appropriate organizational elements on assigned tasks and related matters
Requirements
What you’ll need- Completion of an engineering or computer science curriculum from a University (B.S. or equivalent) or Professional or chartered engineer license
- 5 years of relevant engineering and/or software development experience
- Relevant experience in a shipyard, marine or offshore design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, CAD or engineering software company, software development or consulting company, university, or classification society
- Command of English language
- Knowledge of engineering analysis, specifically structural analysis, finite element approach, and structural or machinery Rule-compliance assessment
- Knowledge of applicable Class Rules and regulations for marine and offshore structures or machinery and the impact of Rule applications and interpretations
- Understanding of software development and IT technologies
- Ability to maintain positive relationships with clients and peers
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing
- Ability to undertake short- and long-term planning for efficient and effective scheduling of work assignments
- Interest in data, digital, system, software, and analytics and development
- Ability to develop a working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, related instructions, and the ABS Employee Safety Policy
