About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Plan and execute a comprehensive grassroots advocacy program across Montana and Wyoming
  • Attract, develop, maintain, and engage volunteer leaders and volunteers
  • Develop and implement grassroots strategies and campaign plans for local, state, and federal legislative priorities
  • Support volunteers in fundraising and facilitate achievement of volunteer fundraising goals
  • Develop tailored communications, including volunteer emails, legislative alerts, issue talking points, and training curricula
  • Plan and manage Cancer Action lobby days and similar virtual or in-person events
  • Maintain ACS CAN web pages, Facebook pages, and other social media accounts
  • Identify and develop volunteers with personal stories related to policy campaigns
  • Manage the volunteer structure, fill vacancies, and ensure sufficient capacity across the geography
  • Organize and manage state legislative campaigns using Direct-Action Organizing principles
  • Coordinate campaigns with coalition partners and regional and national ACS CAN teams
  • Represent ACS CAN and its mission in accordance with organizational brand standards
  • Establish and maintain strategic collaborations and partnerships
  • Lead electoral activity through Cancer Votes while adhering to IRS and ACS CAN legal and reporting requirements
  • Attract, train, develop, communicate with, and recognize volunteers
  • Build relationships with elected officials, legislative staff, coalitions, partners, and diverse communities
  • Train volunteers and ACS staff for interactions with elected officials and their staff
  • Maintain volunteer information in databases such as Salesforce
  • Drive volunteer fundraising and support volunteer-led events, Lights of Hope, policy forums, and other fundraising activities
  • Complete assigned administrative duties and follow ACS CAN policies and guidelines

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of relevant work experience
  • Political issues or campaign organizing experience strongly preferred
  • Experience attracting, developing, and engaging volunteers preferred
  • Fundraising experience is a plus
  • Experience using Salesforce, Every Action, or similar tools is a plus
  • Experience or familiarity with fundamentals of Direct Action Organizing is a plus
  • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, computer, and social media skills are required
  • Highly organized orientation and time management skills are required
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects, work independently with minimum direction, and work as a member or leader of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to work on fast-paced, time-sensitive matters with internal and external constituents
  • Ability to establish, hold meetings, and maintain effective working relationships with state and federal legislative officials
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and communities
  • Ability to complete work in multiple venues and state political environments in a timely and efficient manner and ensure work is accurate
  • Ability to utilize available technology to perform position responsibilities
  • Ability to travel by car, train, or plane as needed
  • Ability to regularly travel and work within Montana and Wyoming communities as needed
  • Travel may require up to 20%, including overnight and occasional weekend travel
