About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee PaintCare operations within an assigned region consisting primarily of western and central New York
  • Conduct regular in-person visits to paint retailers, reuse stores, local government HHW programs, and solid waste facilities
  • Establish relationships with participating paint retail stores, local government partners, and other stakeholders
  • Troubleshoot program issues and ensure stakeholder satisfaction
  • Ensure drop-off sites comply with contracts and site guidelines
  • Educate paint retailers on paint stewardship law obligations
  • Identify and recruit potential paint drop-off sites
  • Explain drop-off site requirements and evaluate prospective partners
  • Oversee onboarding of new drop-off sites, including contracting, on-site training, and coordinating collection and transportation
  • Determine underserved areas and facilitate collection and paint giveaway events
  • Process large-volume pickup requests
  • Order and distribute signage, point-of-sale materials, and outreach materials
  • Monitor use of materials by drop-off sites
  • Connect the public with paint reuse and recycling opportunities
  • Participate in community events and make presentations to groups
  • Attend stakeholder meetings and conferences
  • Provide regional insight to the internal communications team
  • Maintain the drop-off site database and generate reports
  • Ensure records are accurate for the annual report
  • Review and approve invoices related to program operations
  • Report to the program manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of product stewardship programs, laws, and organizations
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of hazardous waste programs, services, and handling, especially local government HHW programs
  • Familiarity with paint products and their applications
  • Familiarity and comfort with paint users, particularly trade painters, contractors, paint retailers, and property managers
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of retail operations and communications, including big box, chain, franchise, co-op, and independent stores
  • Experience with public speaking, training, and/or making presentations
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently from home
  • Willingness to travel extensively within New York State
  • Occasional travel to Washington D.C. and other U.S. locations is required
  • Ability to receive and store bulk orders of point-of-sale materials, conference supplies, a booth kit, and other outreach materials
  • Proficiency with computers and typical office software
  • Valid state driver's license required
  • Must be located in New York State
