About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist in specific areas of operational risk management execution plans within the business unit, including guidelines and project plans for resolving control gaps, mitigating risk, and remediation
  • Support implementation of parts of the operational risk framework to enable effective risk management and decision-making
  • Facilitate understanding and use of risk governance framework basics across business units through regular communication
  • Assist with aggregate basic-level reporting, approvals/exceptions, and “change-the-function” activities
  • Follow processes to integrate and monitor regulatory changes and updates into the Operational Risk framework and training materials
  • Support Legal Entity Governance & Operational Risk committees by coordinating materials, conducting follow-ups, reviewing presentations, and documenting risks, issues, and decisions
  • Share insights, better practices, and themes within the team and across the Legal Entity

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience in operational risk management (e.g., within Risk and/or Internal Audit function)
  • Understanding of critical operational risk management lifecycle activities
  • Project management, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in process governance, with an understanding of processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively
  • Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the UK is required; the company will not pursue visa sponsorship
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Risk Mgmt., or related field; advanced degrees (e.g., MBA, MSc) or certifications are advantageous
