About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Manage a dynamic portfolio of individual consumer and commercial litigation and pre-litigation disputes
Manage, develop, and implement litigation strategies, including dispute analysis, early case assessments, negotiation, and case resolution
Build efficiencies and impactful strategies across the internal litigation portfolio
Provide litigation root-cause analyses and mitigation strategies
Analyze litigation-related issues
Develop and provide clear reporting and metrics to leadership
Provide litigation risk mitigation training and advice to business lawyers and clients
Review contracts and other documents as necessary
Work with attorneys and paralegals to achieve company risk and mitigation goals
Create growth and learning opportunities for team members

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree & J.D.
Qualified to practice law in relevant jurisdiction
10+ years in general litigation practice
Experience in commercial and consumer finance litigation and trials
Demonstrated experience in leading others, directly and/or indirectly
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to generate creative and innovative solutions to client issues and litigation
Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and persuasively, in written and oral format
Ability to work efficiently through a large-volume, fast-paced litigation portfolio
Ability to build relationships and partner with others to drive results
Capacity to be agile and pivot appropriately when challenged with new information or evolving circumstances
Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States
Knowledge of the credit card industry (preferred)
In-house legal experience (preferred)
Insurance defense experience (preferred)
