Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and deploy complex software solutions focused on cloud-based engineering, Java technologies, API design, and user experience
  • Define innovative solutions and take a pragmatic approach to application architecture

  • Lead a team of 10+ engineers
  • Own and lead HR processes including performance reviews and talent development
  • Recruit top technical and non-technical talent and build a high-performing, self-managing software engineering team
  • Lead interactive product and software development using lean principles
  • Drive strategic changes in tools and processes, challenge assumptions, and pursue continuous improvement

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Hands-on experience and deep understanding of functional platforms
  • Hands-on technical foundation in coding practices, architecture, design, complex integrated architectures, coding systems, and interface design
  • 10+ years of demonstrable experience building and deploying large-scale software products
  • Strong experience in design and Agile software development
  • Experience with code reviews for full-stack solutions
  • Hands-on experience with Java, REST APIs, cloud engineering, and building digital experiences
  • Strong understanding and experience in CI/CD and DevOps
  • Experience with system and platform resiliency
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to non-technical individuals
  • Experience with technology planning and roadmapping
  • Proven track record leading problem analysis and resolution
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or information systems, or equivalent work experience
  • Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S.; the company will not pursue visa sponsorship
  • Knowledge and experience working with LLMs and AI agents preferred
  • Knowledge of American Express Marketing & Data platforms and software development practices preferred
  • Advanced degree preferred
