About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform core controllership functions for American Express legal entities housing AXP businesses, including accounting, reporting, business/financial management, audit/internal controls, and compliance
- Support and drive business initiatives and complex accounting/reporting issues related to new M&A deals, legal entity structural changes, consolidation audits, new accounting standards, issuance of new financial instruments, and MRA remediation
- Articulate upstream and downstream impacts from a legal entity perspective
- Spearhead initiatives to strengthen legal entity purity and enhance the governance framework
- Coordinate with multiple teams for variance analysis and governance structure
- Drive complex specialized projects and transactions with multiple parties under limited supervision, including preparation and review of MFRs and other documentation
- Participate in financial and close governance, audit/exam support, board support, resolution planning, and LEG assessment
- Support preparation and review of US-GAAP financial statements, roll-forwards/schedules, and statutory/regulatory filings such as Y11
- Drive balance sheet governance to clear unnatural, static, expired, and unreconciled balances and other alarming items
- Identify process improvement opportunities through trending, variance analytics, commentary, and legacy system setup reviews
Requirements
What you’ll need- Strong technical and operational accounting experience along with process excellence
- Excellent business acumen and ability to think in terms of business strategy and technical compliance
- 1-3 years of experience in Legal Entity Controllership, accounting, reporting, or project management
- US GAAP knowledge
- Audit experience is a plus
- Professional Accounting degree CA/CPA
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with excellent attention to detail and understanding of company business and segments
- Ability to challenge the status quo and effectively communicate with leadership, auditors, and regulators
- Knowledge of US GAAP and ability to understand changes resulting from upcoming GAAP modifications
- Knowledge of Oracle, Essbase, and HFM
- Commitment to working in a team environment to achieve results
- Flexible, results-driven, and able to lead and influence without authority
- Shift timing: 11:30 am-7:30 pm
