About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage and support the annual audit planning process, including maintenance of the audit universe, audit entity risk assessments, capacity planning, and development of the annual audit plan for the Parent Company and Subsidiary Banks
- Govern audit planning methodologies, risk assessment processes, audit universe changes, and audit entity lifecycle management
- Create, modify, and monitor audit entities, special reviews, risk ratings, and related planning activities
- Monitor ongoing audit plan execution and changes, challenging and analyzing proposed changes and assessing impacts to coverage, risk profiles, resource capacity, and regulatory requirements
- Prepare and deliver management reporting, communications, analyses, and presentations for Internal Audit leadership, executive management, and the Audit Committee
- Partner with audit leadership, product management teams, and stakeholders on strategic initiatives, organizational changes, and audit technology enhancements
- Support governance and data management activities across tools to improve audit planning, reporting, and risk coverage
- Participate in regulatory activities, including meeting overviews and deliverables for regulatory requests related to the audit plan or universe
- Maintain awareness of best-in-class internal audit practices and peer benchmarking
Requirements
What you’ll need- Five or more years of experience in internal audit, assurance advisory, or public accounting
- Financial services, banking, or capital markets industry experience preferred
- Internal Audit, Assurance, or Accounting professional certification (CIA, CPA, CISA or equivalent) preferred
- Strong knowledge of Internal Audit regulatory standards and industry best practices
- Strong knowledge and experience in risk management and control theory, including assessment of risk, evaluation of controls, and issue management
- Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills, including issue identification, problem structuring, root-cause analysis, recommendations, and data analysis
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work within high-performing teams and independently
- Ability to partner with audit organization members and outside stakeholders
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and automated reporting and analysis tools
- College degree or advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent
- Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States; visa sponsorship will not be pursued
