About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Identify new product or service changes and material business changes subject to relevant American Express policies and standards
- Support creation and execution of the GMNS Change Risk Assessment framework
- Categorize and risk-assess business changes under appropriate policies and standards
- Implement risk assessment approaches covering strategic, operational, and compliance risks
- Continuously enhance assessment methodology, governance standards, risk taxonomy, and decision criteria
- Partner with Product, Technology, Digital, Operations, Pricing, Enterprise Risk, and other business units to identify emerging risks and recommend mitigation strategies
- Support Change Risk Assessment governance forums
- Prepare risk summaries, recommendations, and executive decision materials
- Track mitigation actions and report portfolio health, key risks, and emerging themes to senior leadership
- Identify cross-program risks and systemic issues across transformation initiatives
- Develop risk profile reporting and communicate operational risk trends, assessment data, themes, and activities to senior management
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3+ years of experience in operational risk management, such as within Risk and/or Internal Audit
- Understanding of critical operational risk management lifecycle activities
- Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Experience in process governance aligned with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards
- Proficient analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or related field preferred
- Advanced degrees or certifications advantageous
- Experience identifying operational risks throughout business processes and systems preferred
- Experience facilitating risk assessments and testing programs preferred
- Experience enhancing risk assessments and associated methodologies preferred
- Experience reviewing independent control monitoring and identifying control improvements preferred
- Experience conducting independent quality assurance and process testing preferred
- Experience reviewing thematic risk reporting preferred
- Experience in the financial services industry preferred
- Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States required; visa sponsorship will not be pursued
