About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support end-to-end process management for issues, operational risk events (OREs), and remediations, including capture, assessment, enhancement, and resolution
  • Influence Business Unit teams that own and action issues, OREs, and remediations
  • Track records’ progress and validate resolution efficacy
  • Communicate status updates to stakeholders and collaborate with other Operational Risk Management teams
  • Perform quality assurance on issue, ORE, and remediation documentation and records
  • Analyze trends in issues and events to identify systemic risks or control weaknesses within Business Unit processes
  • Provide guidance on control enhancements and perform sample testing to ensure resolutions are complete and effective
  • Liaise with business unit partners and compliance colleagues to facilitate issue, ORE, and remediation resolution
  • Embed accountability and integrate lessons learned into future operational risk management practices
  • Review and advise on detailed reports regarding status, trends, and outcomes for senior management and governance committees
  • Support sharing insights, better practices, and themes across the enterprise

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 4+ years of experience in operational risk management, such as within Risk and/or Internal Audit
  • Understanding of critical operational risk management lifecycle activities
  • Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in process governance aligned with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards
  • Robust analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively
  • Experience scoping, prioritizing, and supporting remediation of operational and compliance-related issues, operational risk events, and remediations
  • Experience managing investigations and conducting root cause analysis
  • Experience overseeing remediation processes for operational risk issues and events
  • Experience reviewing documentation and maintaining records of operational risk issues, events, and remediations
  • Experience overseeing issue, event, and remediation resolution processes
  • Experience in the financial services industry
  • Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States; visa sponsorship is not provided
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or related field is preferred
  • Advanced degrees such as MBA or MSc and certifications are advantageous
